Have a friend hold the lamp straight at you, while another friend stands in front of them not covering the light to take the picture.
The bulb on this was a bit yellow... and it created a circle around me. If the lamp has a lampshade that faces down, then take it off so the light is brighter on you!
You don't need to pay a photographer to get creative on your own!
